The Montreal Canadiens have announced plans for their latestlengthy pre-game ceremony.
Guy Lapointe will have his No. 5 jersey retired on Nov. 8.He will be the 17th playerenshrined via the rafter, joining the likes of Howie Morenz, Maurice Richardand Patrick Roy.
Lapointe, now a scout with the Minnesota Wild, scored 166 goals and 572 points in 777 games patrollingthe Habs’ blue line.
Along with defencemenLarry RobinsonandSerge Savard, Lapointe was a member of the “Big Three” and played a key role in the Canadiens’ winning the Stanley Cupsix times in1971,1973,1976,1977,1978,1979. Nicknamed “Pointu”, Lapointe was famous for his sense of humour, powerful slapshot and brutal body-checks.
