Swiss March Through Italians in Davis Cup

The Swiss pull off a convincing 3-2 win over the Italians in the Davis Cup Semifinals, launching them into the finals against the French, who won earlier. This historic run ends a 22 year absence from the finals for the Swiss.

Lammer begins the event with a loss to Seppi 4-6 6-1 4-6, but Federer compensates with a clean 6-2 6-3 7-6(4) victory over Fognini. Wawrinka and Chiudinelli would then loss in a crazy and entertaining five set match against Bolelli and Fognini 5-7 6-3 7-5 3-6 2-6. In the end, the Swiss number one and two would pull out wins with Stan Wawrinka beating Fognini 6-2 6-3 6-2 and Federer defeating Bolelli 7-6(5) 6-4 6-4.

The Swiss will next face the likes of Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Richard Gasquet, Gael Monfils, and Julien Benneteau in the finals of the Davis Cup. This will be an uphill climb for the Swiss but…
