Shot across the bridge: Cincinnati takes aim at Kentucky

They can see Kentucky from Cincinnati, right across the Ohio River, and get there in a blink, just a quick trip over the suspension bridge that separates Bearcats from Wildcats.

“We see the fans and all the blue when we go over to Kentucky to a movie theater (or) restaurants,” Cincinnati forward Gary Clark said. “We see the fans all the time.”

But the two ‘Cats – longtime sort-of rivals – haven’t actually seen each other on a basketball court since the 2005 NCAA Tournament. That changes Saturday afternoon at the KFC Yum! Center, where eighth-seeded Cincinnati (23-10) takes its shot at undefeated No. 1 seed Kentucky (35-0) for a spot in the Sweet 16.

Proximity is one thing, but disrespect is another, and the Bearcats opened as 18 ½-point underdogs in this one.
