WASHINGTON — One game into the Wizards’ and Raptors’ first-round NBA playoff series, Toronto’s Greivis Vasquez is tired of being asked about Paul Pierce.
Last week, with the Wizards certain they would either be matching up against Toronto or Chicago in the playoffs, Pierce floated the idea that, although his team had been swept 0-3 in their regular season series, the Wizards were not intimidated by the Raptors, whom he said lacked the ‘it’ that evokes worry in their opponents.
“We haven’t done particularly well against Toronto, but I don’t feel they have the ‘it’ that makes you worried,” Pierce said.
In the Wizards’ 93-86 Game 1 overtime win on Saturday, Pierce, first greeted with a hailstorm of boos from Toronto fans, backed up his words, delivering a game-high 20 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the field.
By Sunday, Raptors guard Greivis Vasquez had heard enough about Pierce.
