Nick Martinez is the real deal

If you do not know who Nick Martinez is, it is time you familiarize yourself with him. The young right-handed pitcher has been a revelation for the Texas Rangers in 2015.

No fan, even a casual observer, will confuse Martinez, 24, for Felix Hernandez or Chris Sale, but he has definitely solidified his slot in the Rangers’ rotation. After his fourth start of the season on Sunday, Martinez improved his major-league-leading earned run average. With six scoreless innings against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, Martinez’s ERA stands at 0.35.

Martinez is an unlikely success in the big leagues. He attended Fordham University, a school that despite having the most Division I wins for a baseball program, has not produced a notable professional player since Pete Harnisch.
